The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its list of 2015 inductees! Green Day, Lou Reed, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band will all be honoured at the ceremony on April 18.

In addition to those inductees, the award for Musical Excellence will be given to Ringo Star, and the Early Influence Award will be given to The “5” Royals.

In order to be eligible for nomination this year, an act needed to have released their first recording in 1989 or earlier. This makes the Green Day nomination even more special since they will be inducted in their first year of eligibility.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Armstrong said he reacted like this after hearing the news about the induction:

I had to go for a walk, I wound up at this cafe and I sat down and my son met up with me. I told him and he was like, 'Oh my God. No way.' It just took some time to sink in. We're in incredible company and I'm still trying to make sense of this. It's just incredible

Joan Jett had this to say about hearing the news:

It's surreal. I'm sure a big smile came across my face. It's incredible. I'm very flabbergasted. It's going to take a few minutes to sink in before I see how I really feel about it.

Chic, Kraftwerk, The Marvelettes, N.W.A, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, The Spinners, and Sting are the artists that were considered this year, but unfortunately did not make the cut.

As mentioned earlier, the ceremony will take place on April 18, 2015 in Cleveland, Ohio. Tickets will be available to the general public on December 18th at 10am and will be available here.
