Shinedown Montreal Concert Review And Pictures
Out on tour in support of their latest album Amaryllis, Shinedown made their way to Montreal for a show at Club Soda. Joining them on tour was Adelitas Way and In This Moment. Prior to the show, we had the opportunity to chat with frontman Brent Smith and drummer Barry Kerch; stay tuned for our video interview in the next few days.

Coming off of a few cancelled shows due to back issues that have plagued lead singer Maria Brink, In This Moment took to the stage to a very welcoming crowd in Montreal. Showing no visible signs of her injury, Maria stood tall on her pedestal and skull covered mic. Playing a short set of only four songs, their songs were an interesting mix of heavy guitars, thumping drums, hard bass lines combined with Maria's growly vocals. Later this year the band will be a part of the UpRoar Tour in support of their upcoming release Blood which is set to drop on August 14, 2012. If you get a chance, make sure you check them out.

Playing for the first time in Montreal, Adelitas Way made themselves at home at Club Soda. Playing songs mostly off of their 2011 release, Home School Valedictorian, the band bounced around the stage interacting not only with the crowd, but also with each other. Midway through their set, frontman Rick DeJesus told the crowd that if they kept up their level of energy, he'd stage dive later in the show. During the last few songs - Criticize and Sick, the crowd energy elevated, and making true on his promise, Rick leapt into the crowd during their performance of Invincible. Judging by those in attendance, they'd more than welcome Adelitas Way back to Montreal anytime, and it looks like it'll happen sooner rather than later; the band posted this on their Facebook page.

Coming to the stage to Jay Z's hit song 99 Problems, Shinedown got things started with a bang. Kicking thing off with their hugely successful hit, Sound Of Madness, it was obvious from the get go that we would be in for a hell of a show. While the band is used to playing larger venues these days, the energy created in the smaller confines of Club Soda just can't be put into words.
Usually during a show, most of the focus tends to go towards the lead singer, in Shinedown's case, you couldn't help but watch the rest of the band. From guitarist Zach Myers shredding solos on the front riser, to bassist Eric Bass jumping around the stage, to the hard hitting beats of drummer Barry Kerch the band performed as a strong unit.
Playing songs mostly from their 2008 release Sound Of Madness and the recently released Amarylis, most of the songs turned into huge sing-a-longs especially the crowd favourite, Crow and the Butterfly. Before going into I'll Follow You, Brent dedicated the song to the crowd thanking them for being there for the band and for giving Shinedown a reason to continue making music.
When the band left the stage prior to the encore, the fans took over and started the ever so popular "Ole Ole" chant. When the band did return to the stage, the smile on Brent's face said it all. Before playing their cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple Man, Brent and Zach toyed with the crowd playing some snippets of songs like Nirvana's Come As You Are and Bon Jovi's Dead or Alive. They also encouraged the crowd to do the Ole Ole chant once again, and just when you thought the crowd couldn't get any louder, it did. To close out the night, they performed Second Chance and Fly From the Inside.
Mid show, singer Brent Smith asked the crowd who was seeing the band for the first time, surprisingly, the majority of the crowd raised their hands. It'll be interesting to see what the answer is the next time they come to town because judging by the smiles on peoples faces after the show, they'll definitely want a second chance at seeing Shinedown again.
